Bonsai Gallery & Styling by Graham Potter

The story of this African native is far from auspicious. Back when we were selling a lot of tropical trees I found I could do amazing things with this succulent variety some refer to as ’salad bonsai’. These cuttings are where it all started.

Cultivated in large Ercole Pots in a very warm poly-tunnel portulacaria grow at an alarming rate. From a cutting this took me about 4 growing seasons.

Make a plan at the outset and stick to it, these things don’t happen by accident.

My big head makes this look small, it’s not. About 7-8 years in total. For a bonsai of this quality, from nothing and in the UK I recon that’s pretty impressive. Our last picture before I sold the tree.

I’m quite proud of my ’salad’ bonsai.
